Next System Teach-Ins underscore need for lasting political and economic change

Amid one of the most polarizing election cycles in recent history, thousands of students, faculty and community members across the country are uniting around profound concerns for the future of our country to host Next System Teach-Ins from Earth Day (4/22) to May Day (5/1), 2016. Dozens of campuses and communities are coming together for a radical reimagining of our society and economy in the face of unprecedented inequality, climate disaster and an erosion of democracy so deep that traditional reforms are demonstrably unable to resolve the growing needs of our communities.

Focusing on uplifting existing initiatives and working collaboratively to fill in gaps, the teach-ins will serve both to plan practical next steps in local communities and provide space for out-of-the-box thinking to inspire new solutions to our growing problems. In person and online thousands will engage in discussion and debate about how to accelerate and deepen the transition to a sustainable, resilient and just Next System, building on the energy sparked by the inaugural events in NYC and Madison, WI this March.

The Teach-Ins are an initiative of the Next System Project, an effort launched last year by 450+ prominent academic, policy, and cultural leaders including Danny Glover, Robert Reich and Medea Benjamin, co-chaired by Gar Alperovitz and Gus Speth, and housed within The Democracy Collaborative.
