The Democracy Collaborative is hiring for a part-time, paid intern position for the 2019-2020 academic year focused on providing support for our communications department as it works to highlight projects focused on catalyzing a more equitable, just, sustainable, and democratic political-economic system. The intern will provide support for a major website overhaul, while also creating ongoing digital content to advance our mission. For further details, please see the position description below.
Provide support for a major migration of our central organizational website, helping migrate and adapt text and image content, draft new copy, and provide quality assurance for migrated articles and publications.
Develop creative assets for our websites and social media, including interactive timelines, charts, and other visualizations, as well as short videos.
Assist with production of our Next System Podcast.
Author or collaborate on blog posts and other content.
Provide other support as needed to the comms team.
An interest in political-economic system change and the practical strategies needed to make this change happen.
Experience or interest in website maintenance and basic web design.
Experience or interest in basic graphic design and multimedia production.
Demonstrated excellence in writing and communication (specifically, the ability to convey relevant information concisely and clearly).
A strong commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.
A willingness to work independently with clear deadlines.
An ability to commit to 15-20 hours/week working out of our Washington, D.C. office.
The internship will last nine months, with some flexibility of start and end dates to accommodate semester schedules. The internship can be extended by mutual agreement. The goal of The Democracy Collaborative’s internship program is to provide educational experiences for interns, and the intern will have the opportunity to work with Democracy Collaborative staff across the organization and participate in staff seminars, talks, and other events. We will work with interns to develop projects related to their interests that intersect with our work, in addition to ongoing tasks.
