Lauren Nixon is a facilitator, trainer, educator, speaker, and curriculum designer who has worked across the realms of food equity, environmental equity, social justice, and community building. Prior to joining The Democracy Collaborative as the Healthcare Engagement Manager, Lauren worked with a variety of organizations as a consultant. With FoodCorps, an AmeriCorps program, Lauren trained a team of Service Members on issues of food equity, contributed to a guidebook around equity, inclusion, and community-building, and collaborated with a team to develop thoughtful and intentional curriculum. As a consultant for Institute for Public Health Innovation and the PG County Food Equity Council, Lauren collaborated with council members in order to expand food policy to increase food access and economic equity throughout the county. As a consultant with Get HYPE! Philly, Lauren explored issues of community, health, and environmental equity through youth facilitation. As a speaker with New Hope Network, Lauren facilitated lively presentations around hunger, community building, and social change for good. Lauren has also worked in education, coordination, and management with organizations such as Hidden Villa, Urban Nutrition Initiative, The Free Library of Philadelphia, and the DC Public School System. Lauren holds a B.A. from The New School and a M.A. from New York University.
