Sarah Stranahan - Senior Editorial Associate
Sarah Stranahan has dedicated her career to community organizing, democracy reform, social change philanthropy, and mission-driven finance and investing. As a long time board member of the Needmor Fund, she helped design and oversee grant program in support of community organizing and an integrated mission related investment program.
Sarah worked from 2009-2012 as the founding coordinator of the New Economy Network, a platform for accelerating the transition to an economy that supports people and the planet. From 2013-2015 she worked as Strategic Development Director at Free Speech For People, a non-profit organization that advances legal strategies to renew US democracy for we the people and challenge the doctrine of corporate rights. Sarah was a proud recipient Common Causes’ Civic Advocacy Award in 2016 for her work on democracy reform. Most recently she worked with FairVote and the It’s Time Network to create the “Guide To Evolving Democracy,” a comprehensive inventory of the challenges facing the US democracy and solutions to strengthen it. Sarah currently co-chairs the board of the New Economy Coalition, a network of more than 175 organizations imagining and building a future where people, communities, and ecosystems thrive. She is also a board member of the Stranahan Foundation. Sarah divides her time between New York and Cape Cod, where she is developing a small eco-housing project.
