Zainab Arain - Senior Associate, Anchor Collaborative Network and Anchor Learning Network
Zainab Arain joined The Democracy Collaborative in 2019 and works as a Senior Associate with the Anchor Collaborative Network and the higher education engagement team. She works both with a network of city- and community-based local wealth building collaboratives—made up of communities, anchor institutions, governments, and backbone organizations—and a network of higher education institutions across the US and Canada. These networks are exploring diverse approaches to developing inclusive and equitable local economies.
Prior to joining The Democracy Collaborative, she served as the manager of research and advocacy at the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a national faith-based civil rights organization. Zainab has authored multiple authoritative reports on Islamophobia, hate-funding in philanthropy, and American-Muslim civil rights in the last few years. She completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of California Los Angeles in Communications Studies and Islamic Studies respectively.
