Job Title: Coordinator, U.S. Community Wealth Building Community of Practice
Location: Remote
Position Type: Contractor - Approximately 8 days/month, 6 month contract, potential for renewal.
Organization Overview:
The Democracy Collaborative (TDC) is an action-oriented think-do tank committed to building a democratic economy through systemic political-economic change from the bottom up. We do this both through our on-the-ground practice – the body of work we call Community Wealth Building – and through interventions in the ideas system and at the level of policy and strategy
Position Summary:
The Community of Practice (CoP) Coordinator will work with TDC’s leadership to manage and grow the U.S. Community Wealth Building (CWB) Community of Practice (CoP), a collaborative community of place-based leaders, activists, researchers, and practitioners advancing CWB initiatives across the United States. This role focuses on fostering peer-to-peer learning, supporting resource development, and ensuring the effective operation and growth of the network. The Coordinator will also contribute to The Democracy Collaborative's broader efforts to produce impactful resources, tools, and frameworks for the broader CWB movement.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Coordination & Facilitation:
Plan, schedule, and coordinate quarterly (at least) online plenary meetings, alongside smaller monthly group sessions with thematic foci.
Facilitate discussions, encourage peer-to-peer learning, and support collaboration among network members.
Develop agendas, materials, and follow-up materials for online CoP meetings.
Lead the preliminary planning working towards an in-person convening at the end of 2025 or in early 2026.
Resource Development:
Collaborate with TDC staff to develop and update case studies, policy frameworks, toolkits, and other resources to support CWB initiatives.
Membership Recruitment & Engagement:
Develop strategies to grow the network, including exploring potential revenue and paid membership models.
Serve as a primary point of contact for CoP members, connecting them with both internal and external resources.
Act as a liaison between CoP members and TDC services, ensuring alignment with the network’s needs.
Communications & Engagement:
Collaborate with communications staff to build out and keep the CoP website updated with member profiles, tools, and resources.
Contribute content to TDC’s blog, newsletters, and other external communication channels.
Qualifications:
Required Skills & Experience:
Strong facilitation and coordination skills, with experience managing virtual and in-person meetings or events.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across diverse groups.
Familiarity with Community Wealth Building principles or similar frameworks for progressive local economic development.
Experience developing written resources, such as guides, toolkits, or case studies.
Strong project management skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
Experience working with networks, coalitions, or communities of practice.
Knowledge of economic justice, community and economic development efforts.
Proficiency in digital communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, Slack, Squarespace).
Compensation: $5,000/month, for 6 months with a possibility of extension.
