Training: Introduction to Community Wealth Building

Introduction to Community Wealth Building: Virtual Training

Join us to learn about Community Wealth Building as an approach to local economic system change starting in your place and/or community. The road to economic transformation begins locally, and right away.

In this introductory training session, you will learn about the history, theory, and practice of Community Wealth Building (CWB) from its leading developers. CWB is an approach to economic development that transforms local economies based on communities having direct ownership and control of their assets. It challenges failing conventional models that have been widely accepted in economic development for too long, addressing wealth inequality at its core.

Our training will introduce you to the basics of CWB and equip you with the initial tools and approaches necessary to getting started where you are. It is for all those who recognize that the economy is failing too many people and are seeking to implement a new approach to bottom-up local economic development.

How long is the training session?

The training session will be conducted online over Zoom, and will last 2 hours

Who is this training for?

This introductory workshop – which will be limited to 25 places on a first-come-first-served basis, and repeated on at least a quarterly basis (or more frequently, according to demand) – is for anyone who wishes to understand more about CWB and/or is looking to accelerate existing CWB activity in their community or sector place. It is for those who recognize that the economy is failing too many people and are seeking a new approach to bottom-up local economic development. We especially encourage community development/economic development practitioners, activists and community leaders, policymakers and advocates, and philanthropists and other economic development stakeholders, legislators, funders, and elected officials to attend.

Please Note: If you are looking to book five or more representatives from the same organization or jurisdiction, please contact us in advance of booking to determine whether a bespoke training session exclusively for your organization may be more appropriate.

Who will be leading this training?

This workshop will be conducted by The Democracy Collaborative and led by Neil McInroy, TDC’s Global Lead for Community Wealth Building at The Democracy Collaborative. He brings first-hand knowledge and experience developing and implementing CWB strategies in the United States and globally.
